A study of Shakespeare's presentation of women in Macbeth. Shakespeare has portrayed women to be mentally strong to the extent that they are able to speak their minds and show that they have aspirations. In my opinion women are shown with an inner strength that men lack as well as a connection to the dark and evil side of life. What should mainly be taken into consideration is the fact that this play is set in a world mainly dominated by masculine characters. Women were seen very differently to how they are in the present day. Men and women had different roles; this is shown by the fact that all the important people such as the thanes and the King were male. The King was said to be chosen by God. The Queen of Witchcraft was Hecate, who is obviously a female character and was most probably chosen by the devil. This shows a contrast. Lady Macbeth being the main female character in the play gives us an idea of Shakespeare's personal thoughts and views of women. She is seen to be the 'strong woman behind a great leader'. She makes decisions on behalf of Macbeth and plants ideas in his head. "Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here." (1.5 ll.38-40) This shows her calling evil spirits to help her with a plan to murder Duncan. This was done without consulting Macbeth, which shows that she has a lot of power in their relationship. The fact that she even calls evil spirits portrays her as a follower of witchcraft or another sinuous way of life. These were very much frowned upon during the period the play was set in aswel as during the reign of James I. Lady Macbeth asks to be 'unsexed' which could be interpreted as her having feelings that weren't meant to be experienced by women. ... ... idea about what sort of person or being Hecate is. Lady Macduff is shown as a strong-minded female character. She has a good relationship with her son as they have a conversation after Macduff's departure. Macduff's son shows her affection by adding humour in a tense situation as in Act 4 Scene 2. Later on in Act 4 Scene 3 after being warned of danger a murderer appears in Macduff's castle. The murderer fails to intimidate Lady Macduff as she keeps her head up by answering the murderer back. She and her son are then murdered. Women are shown to be strong-minded and to have connections with the other side of life, which was not thought highly of. These women are able to manipulate people in their own way. The witches trigger Macbeth to commit murder and Lady Macbeth masterminds the whole murder and reassures Macbeth that the murder is for the best.

How to Teach Something Essay
During the week I taught my father how to play rock band he learn how to play the drums on easy and medium level. It was fun teaching him he caught on easily and he got a really high scores and it was a great experience. I taught this skill to my dad because itââ¬â¢s something that my little sister and I like to do and it would be fun to do together. I also taught this skill because my dad and I donââ¬â¢t do a lot of things together and this would just be another great thing to do together! I chose my dad because he likes learning new things. He also likes have fun! So I thought this skill would make him really happy. He also wanted to learn how to play this game but we never had it and then I got it for Christmas. So I asked him if he still wanted to learn how to play it and he said yes. After I asked him he was so excited. It was really nice to see him happy. At the beginning of the lesson, things started off nice we both got a little frustrated at another but after the first game he started getting the hang of it and kind of started to get the concept. He really enjoyed the first game. And we had a lot of laughs. But then we got on the real levels and it started to confuse him a little. But after ten minutes I explained it a little more and he got it. In the middle of the lesson, my father was on a roll and I kept on switching the song because each song could be a little more difficult. And it was hard for at some points and then we took it a little slower and he started to get the hang of it more and more each time it! It was awesome to see how good he was getting. After the lesson was over, my dad learned how to play like an expert! On medium and easy level! I had such a great time teaching my dad and in the end itââ¬â¢s going towards great use because now I can do a lot more things with him at hope. In the end of everything seeing my dad really happy with his accomplishment and seeing that he wanted to learn to be with me more was the icing on the cake!

Abolition of Death Penalty
ABOLITION OF DEATH PENALTY DEFINITION According to Republic Act No. 7659, death penalty is a penalty for crimes that are ââ¬Å"heinous for being grievous, odious and hateful offenses and which, by reason of their inherent or manifest wickedness, viciousness, atrocity and perversity are repugnant and outrageous to the common standards and norms of decency and morality in a just, civilized and ordered society. â⬠Death penalty is a cruel, futile and dangerous punishment for ââ¬Å"very serious reasons and with due judicial process. According toà Amnesty International, a worldwide movement of people working for internationally recognized human rights; death penalty is the ultimate, irreversible denial of human rights. Thus, they worked towards abolishing it in order to ââ¬Å"end the cycle of violence created by a system riddled with economic and racial bias and tainted with human error. â⬠BACKGROUND Next, I would like to present a brief background on death penalty in the Philippines. In 1987, the Philippines made history by becoming the first Asian country in modern times to abolish the death penalty for all crimes.However, six years later, in 1993, the death penalty was reintroduced in the Philippines for 46 different offences. Such of those are murder, rape, parricide, infanticide and qualified bribery, among others. Executions resumed in 1999 until year 2000 when former President Estrada announced a moratorium on executions. This has been continued by current President Arroyo, in practice, throughout her presidency. Now, under her rule, the death penalty is again abolished . STANCE I am in favor of abolishing the death penalty law in the Philippines.Allow me to present my arguments. First, it violates the right to live. Second, it is a very cruel practice. Third, it is anti-poor. Last, death penalty defeats its purpose. ARGUMENTS First, the imposition of death penalty violates a person's right to live. Article III Section 1 of the 1987 Constituti on, otherwise known asà the Bill of Rights, states that ââ¬Å"No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or propertyâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ By imposing death penalty, the right of a criminal to live is being violated. Furthermore, it is a known fact that majority of Filipinos are Catholics.As said, we have one of the world's largest Christian populations. According toà the Ten Commandmentsà of the Church, thou shall not kill. Therefore, nobody is given the right to commit the lives of others. Whether that person is a criminal or not, nobody has the right to play God and take the life that He has given. Filipinos should ââ¬Å"respect and value the sanctity of human life and uphold the virtue and religious doctrines that are expected of us as a dominant Christian nation. â⬠Second, it is a very cruel, inhuman and irreversible practice.It is very cruel and in human because persons are killed. This alone is proof. Once a person is killed, the act cannot be reversed. Third, death penalty is anti-poor. In a country like the Philippines with a very slow, sometimes inefficient, unfair and unjust judicial system, death penalty is simply not viable. Majority of the 1200 people on the death row are poor. Maybe, for some, being there is what they deserve. But for many, it is poverty that brought them there. Not everyone in that row should die.Many are simply there because they ran against some filthy rich and powerful person or they could not afford to get a good lawyer to defend them. A study showed that ââ¬Å"death penalty is anti-poor as the underprivileged who cannot afford the services of competent counsels are oftentimes the ones convicted of death penaltyâ⬠. ââ¬Å"Studies have shown that the death penalty is disproportionately imposed on the poorest, least educated and most vulnerable members of society. It takes the lives of offenders who might otherwise have been rehabilitated. â⬠Lastly, death penalty does not live up to its purpose.It is not able to serve its purpose which is to prevent crimes and to preserve peace and order. According to the President, in a letter she sent to Senate President Franklin M. Drilon, the imposition of death penalty ââ¬Å"was shown to have not served its principal purpose of effectively deterring the commission of heinous crimesâ⬠. Clearly, even with death penalty imposed, the Philippines still continued to project high and rising crime rates in the country. If death penalty is effective, there should have been less crimes but it is quite the contrary.Also, there are no concrete evidence like studies or tests that could prove that the imposition of death penalty really prevents crime thus maintaining peace and order in the country. SUMMARY To cap off this essay, death penalty is the punishment served to those who have committed crimes that are ââ¬Å"heinous for being grievous, odious and hateful offenses and which, by reason of their inherent or manifest wickedness, viciousness, atroc ity and perversity are repugnant and outrageous to the common standards and norms of decency and morality in a just, civilized and ordered society. I am in favor of the abolition of death penalty because first, its imposition violates the right to live. Second, it is a very cruel, inhuman and irreversible act. Third, death penalty is anti-poor. Lastly, death penalty does not serve its purpose of preventing crimes and preserving peace and order. I wish to end this speech by saying that I commend the Congress for passing a legislation calling for the abolition of death penalty. I donââ¬â¢t think so.But the new Vice President of the Philippines Jejomar Binay thinks it so as he utter his desire to bring back death penalty in the Philippine in his outburst emotional response when he attended the wake of the brutally murdered son of attorney Oliver Lozano at media interview. ââ¬Å"Dapat ibalik na ang death penaltyâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ( ââ¬Å"It is high time to bring back death penaltyâ⬠) ââ¬â-Jejomar Binay Death Penalty has been in the Philippines since the Marcos administration but was only removed at the time of former Philippine president Corazon Aquino and was revived during between the administration of former Philippine presidents Fidel V.Ramos and Joseph Ejercito Estrada and was removed again at the time of the recent former Philippine President Gloria Ma capagal Arroyo because of the mistake and failure of the execution of the First ever Filipino to receive death penalty by lethal injection ââ¬âLeo Echagaray for the crime of rape which was found eventually that he is not guilty or was innocent of the crime he was accused of and the true rapist is at large and unknown. What a big slap on the Philippines justice system, thus it was removed.It was the roar and pro-death penalty campaigns in the media which influenced unlearned people that Leo Echagaray succumb into untimely death before he was proven innocent; so sad that people at that time were driven by brainless wrath to revenge for the rape victim. A few days ago the chief of Police for West Orange, New Jersey spoke out about the negative effects of the death penalty.James Abbott (police chief) stated that ââ¬Å"the death penalty is broken beyond repair and that the extra money spent pursuing executions could be better spent on crime prevention and the needs of victimsâ⬠. ââ¬Å"I no longer believe that you can fix the death penalty. Six months of study opened my eyes to its shocking reality. I learned that the death penalty throws millions of dollars down the drain ââ¬â money that I could be putting directly to work fighting crime every day ââ¬â while dragging victims' families through a long and torturous process that only exacerbates their pain. Now in New Jersey, the death penalty has been outlawed. The death penalty is being replaced with life in prison with no chance of parole. Is this really gonna lower the costs that the death penalty brings about? On top of that, could the money used for the death pena lty really be used to help change peopleââ¬â¢s attitudes on how they act? Currently, the state of New Jersey has spent over a quarter of a billion dollars on the death penalty in the last 30 years.Would this be enough money to ââ¬Å"rehabilitate a murdererâ⬠? Personally I think trying to have a murderer rehabilitated is a waste of time. I know there is the saying that everyone deserves a 2nd chance but in the case of murder, there is no 2nd chance for the murdered. Why should we not take anotherââ¬â¢s life if he murdered another life? Not only for cost reasons do I think life in prison would be a waste of money but also ethically I think life imprisonment is cruel.I know there are a lot of ethical dilemmas involved but would we as humans be cruel enough to torture another human for the rest of his life in prison? To me, ending someoneââ¬â¢s life fast and quick seems more human than dragging out a sentence for however number of years. Also, even if the man or woman was not being tortured in prison, we would be spending money on keeping 1 person alive who murdered another. The It Girl Analytical
In the book The It Girl, by Cecily Von Ziegesar, Jennie Humphries is a girl who wants to be popular and will do anything to get that status. In the book Jennie gets sent to a new boarding school and wants to become a new person; more sophisticated and classy. Once she arrives she learns that she rooms with the most popular girls in the school and rumors start to spread about Jennie being promiscuous. She runs into some drama and ends up being accepted into the cool group of people. Jennie seeks to gain power over others to improve her reputation and to be in charge. Jennie tries to gain power over many of the girl characters to seem cool. When roommate Calli gets caught for having a boy in her room past curfew she blames it on Jennie. Jennie has to go talk to committee and testify that she was the one with the boy. Calli bribes Jennie to take the fall and Jennie holds it over her head to get her to do whatever she wants. This portrays Jennieââ¬â¢s want for power over the girls because it shows that she will turn against her friends if means more power for her. Another example of Jennieââ¬â¢s hunger for power over the girls is when Jennie forces Brett to admit her affair with Eric Dalton, the schools Disciplinary student advisor. Jennie knows that if she gets Brett to trust her and tell her secrets then she can have power over Brett and black mail. Overall Jennie tries to gain power over all of the girls to show that she is the ââ¬Å"itâ⬠girl. Jennie seeks power over select male characters to show that she is popular and can get whatever boy she wants. In the beginning Jennie charms Brandon Buchanan with her new girl act and plays like she is clueless to how things work around the school. This convinces Brandon to like her and Jennie gains power by turning him down and saying that they are just friends. This allows Jennie to have the control of making Brandon do whatever she wants him to in order to make her like him. Another example is with Heath Ferro. Everyone goes to a party and Jennie allows Heath to take her to the famous church spot where he makes out with girls. Heath and Jennie end up kissing and when drunken Heath tries to take it to the next level she stops him and leads him back to his dorm room. This lets everyone know that Jennie has the power to say no to Heath and that she can have him whenever she wants him. Jennie also has a secret thing with Easy Walsh, Calliââ¬â¢s boyfriend. Jennie knows that she canââ¬â¢t be in a relationship with him because Calli would be mad and everyone would think she is a boyfriend stealer but she has strong feelings for him and he feels the same way. Later on Easy breaks up with Calli which shows that Jennie has a power over his feelings and can now get him do whatever she wants. Jennie has a great amount of power over the boys because she plays with their emotions and gets them to do whatever she wants. In The It girl Jennie struggles to gain power over everyone for selfish reasons. Everyone wants to be popular and have everyone love them but some people will go to the extreme to achieve this kind of power. We can learn from Jennieââ¬â¢s ways that there are other ways to have power and better thing s to do with power than to manipulate people and their emotions. By gaining all of this power Jennie earns a reputation but not the one she was looking for. It just shows that she is selfish and will do anything to get what she wants and to be on top. Like some say, he is most powerful who has power over himself.

Reading Reflection Essay
The reader-response appeal to literature relies on the readerââ¬â¢s ability to process the information being shared rather than the author or the text itself. With the reader-response, a person reads text and then relates to automatic explanations about life that are triggered moment by moment as they continue to read. The literature uses triggers that the readerââ¬â¢s nervous system spontaneously responds to. This type of approach to reading allows people to imagine and be creative within them. It allows the reader to hear, feel and smell what they are reading as if it were happening right now in front of them. The reader-response approach with ââ¬Å"the Road Not Takenâ⬠by Robert Frost offered a common understanding for situations in which I had to choose between two decisions. There was a visceral vision of a dilemma to make a choice that would eliminate the other option from ever becoming a possibility when Frost submitted that there was remorse for not being able to travel down the paths for both decisions. Every decision we make causes a difference in some sort of way. Since Frostsââ¬â¢ dilemma was not clear and concise I was able to implement my own choices to make a decision on. The key linguistic that triggered the process was use of the term ââ¬Ëpathââ¬â¢. I was able to relate the poem to a difficult decision of whether or not I was going to move across the country for a job offer. When Frost wrote ââ¬Å"because it was grassy and wanted wearâ⬠I was able to relate to the yearning to want to move to Florida (grassy), but not leave the support of his family behind in Michigan (wanted wear). My fiancà ©e and I had to sort through the mutual acknowledgement of each others concerns, have common understandings, and act with the other persons concerns in mind. Both ideas were individually acceptable and understanding by themselves, however; the path ââ¬Å"to where it bent in the undergrowthâ⬠, was our childlike needs to be close to family and always have them to be there for us when needed. To travel across the country without a guarantee of success was non existent. The road ââ¬Å"less traveled byâ⬠was the decision my fiancà ©e and I ended up executing; we moved to Florida with a faith that the decision was for the better. Most of our peer group still lives in Michigan; and while moving to Florida may carry unknown factors we feel as if we know how our lives will plan out by staying in Michigan. By taking the road less traveled we are unaware of the consequences that await me ââ¬â both positive and negative ââ¬â and that makes life more thrilling and I greet each week with anticipation. Mr. Frostââ¬â¢s ability to craft a poem with generic terms allows for the possibility to implement my own experience and apply absolute creativity. I suppose that people who take more risk and accept the unknowns about life can relate more to this poem than others but we can all still relate. I think that at some point I our lives we all come across a path that could go either way and we have to choose which path we will take. Perhaps in some cases the road that is more traveled may be safer or predictable, however, the road less traveled will have more twists and turns that can make the risk a more debatable question of whether it is acceptable or not. Though the poem is not one that I would typically gravitate towards, Iââ¬â¢ve realized that by going out of the normal reading habits it allows my imagination to be inspired to find ways to relate. The reader-response approach to the poem would allow most viewers to find some way to relate to it because the way that it is crafted allows a reader to examine each sentence as something personal of the author and the vagueness allows for unlimited boundaries of the reader to interpret for themselves what could and will happen. The notion that everyone can interpret this poem differently is intriguing and inspires my creativity with reading and finding a way to relate myself. In the past, present or future ââ¬â this poem is applicable to any area of thought that the reader allows. The theme of the poem may after all be to seize the day, and the creativity that comes out from our imagination ensures that the reader-response approaches to be guaranteed when reading ââ¬Å"The Road Not Takenâ⬠. Somehow, the situation took a drastic turn during the second half of the same century, and the same Mary Evans Ann, who used to produce works under the male name George Eliot, got such courage that she started living with G. H. Lewes for more than 20 years quite as if his wife did not exist; Sarah Austin (the wife of the famous jurist), who wrote letters of such ardor and indiscretion to a visiting German prince as to invite blackmail. (Himmelfarb, 1961) The Victorian literature reveals that female writers, poets, intellectuals and artists used to feel hesitation in participating into any literary, social or political activity, for they were discouraged to get their works published. It is therefore the renowned authors and novelists including Bronte sisters, George Eliot and others had to conceal their female names while creating the pieces of literature. Though Victorian literature contained the works of female writers, but the atmosphere was not appreciable at all. The share of women community in social construction was not acknowledged, although they worked in fields, hospitals, teaching institutions and other professions at limited scale. Stil l the male domination was oppressive and tyrannical. At first, Elizabeth Cady Stanton in 19th century and Emma Goldman in the beginning of 20th century raised their voice for the women rights. However, later part of nineteenth century observed imperative changes in womenââ¬â¢s role and responsibilities in society. It was the era when Charles Darwin presented his astounding Evolution Theory under the title ââ¬Å"Survival of the Fittestâ⬠in his magnificent work On the Origin of Species (1859), and proved that only strong and powerful species maintained the right to survive and reproduce. Darwin vehemently argues in favor of the notion natural selection, and declares it as the law of nature. He is of the view that it is the law of nature that the favorable traits and features in species contain more probability of inheritance and transformation into next generations. (1872: 159) Renowned sociologist Herbert Spencer extended the same survival theory, called social Darwinism, a nd claimed that socially strong communities make sure headway in the world, while the financially weak people are sure to eliminate sooner or later. Nineteenth century women also got inspiration from this very notion to obtain freedom from the awkward clutches of suppression and humiliation. Thus, womenââ¬â¢
